UKE is a teaching hospital and is the largest hospital in Northern Germany. It treats around 50,000 in-patients in a year and has a dedicated ward for international patients, with interpreters, international TV, ethnic food, internet and comprehensive patient services.

It is a leading centre for liver and kidney transplants has expertise in a wide range of treatments, including rare diseases.
