Liege University Hospital is a full-service hospital for the Wallonia region of Belgium and it collaborates on important projects with the University Hospitals of Aachen in Germany and Maastricht in the Netherlands.

BOSNIA / HERZOGOVINA

Euromedic International
Euromedic operates scanning, diagnostic, therapeutic and dialysis centres in 15 countries.

History
In July 1998, Euromedic started activities in the Republic of Srpska, one of the two entities of Bosnia & Herzegovina.

The company began its operation in the country thanks to good references and a well-known reputation in Central and Eastern Europe. In addition, the trust of local people towards Euromedic management helped greatly in establishing the company in Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Euromedic’s PPP concept was an ideal solution for a conflict-affected country like Bosnia. The war ended in 1995 and, among all other spheres of life, the country’s health sector suffered immensely. The revitalization of medical facilities was an imperative, however, it required huge amounts of capital investment.

The project would not have been successful without the support of Mr. Milorad Dodik, at that time Prime Minister of the RS Government, former RS Health Minister Dr. Zeljko Rodic, former Director of the RS Health Insurance Fund Dr. Dragutin Ilic and former Director of the Clinical Centre Banja Luka Dr. Branislav Lolic.
Working centres

Euromedic constructed two centres for dialysis in Bosnia & Herzegovina - in Banja Luka and Bijeljina. Centre Banja Luka caters for 195 patients on chronic dialysis programmes. The centre in Bijeljina is larger, catering for more than 210 chronic patients.

Both Banja Luka and Bijeljina dialysis centres enjoy a strong reputation among medical and non-medical communities in Bosnia & Herzegovina and across the wider region. They have attracted highly educated and skilled personnel, employing about 100 staff.
In September 2002, the Banja Luka and Bijeljina dialysis centres both received EN ISO 9001:2000 certification for haemodialysis, which was renewed in 2005 and 2007.

In September 2008, Euromedic opened its third dialysis centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the town of Laktasi. The centre was developed in co-operation with the local government as a Green Field Project. IDC Laktasi will treat 90 patients on a regular basis and is equipped with state-of-the-art haemodialysis equipment and water treatment systems and has the capacity to expand its base of operation to 160 patients. The centre has 18 haemodialysis machines and performs in excess of 14,000 treatments annually.
In October 2008, Euromedic opened its fourth dialysis centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the city of East Sarajevo. The centre was developed in co-operation with the local government as a Green Field Project. IDC East Sarajevo will treat in the beginning 45 patients on a regular basis and is equipped with state-of-the-art haemodialysis equipment and water treatment systems and has the capacity to expand its base of operation to 90 patients.

The centre has 13 haemodialysis machines and this year with a staff of 17 medical professionals will deliver in excess of 7,000 treatments. With a total of four dialysis centres Euromedic Bosnia now provides dialysis services for nearly 550 patients in the Republic of Srpska.

CROATIA

Euromedic International

History

In May 2006, International Dialysis Centres acquired the largest dialysis centre in Croatia - Polyclinic Sveti Duh II. The Zagreb-based Polyclinic was completely renovated and equipped with the most advanced dialysis medical equipment, and it now caters for more than 180 patients. The centre, which is located on the grounds of Sveti Duh Hospital, was the largest and most famous dialysis centre in former Yugoslavia.

Euromedic announced the opening of its latest dialysis centre in Gospic, Croatia. The centre is located in the Gospic Regional Medical Centre and was developed in co-operation with the local government as a Green Field Project. This is the second centre Euromedic owns and operates in the country. IDC Gospic will treat 65 patients on a regular basis and has the capacity to accommodate visiting patients during the holiday season. The centre has 10 haemodialysis machines and this year with a staff of 10 medical professionals will perform in excess of 10,000 treatments.

In July 2008, Euromedic acquired “Poliklinika Kalajzic” Diagnostic Centre in Split, Croatia. The acquisition includes a modern multi-modality diagnostic centre and outpatient department located in the second largest city of Croatia. The company which was established in 1993 has earned a highly respected reputation having served the community for over 15 years. This is the first diagnostic centre of Euromedic in Croatia.

The centre provides a wide range of diagnostic and outpatient procedures including: Magnetic Resonance (MRI), Computerized Tomography (CT), Ultrasound, X-Rays, Mammography and Neurological exams. The centre headed by Dr. Kalajzic and his highly qualified team of 20 medical professionals perform nearly 40,000 diagnostic investigations annually.

Cimasa operates ten dialysis centres in the Campania region of Italy, covering the area of Napoli, Sorrento, Pompeii and more. It is part of the Maria Rosaria nursing home group, offering a wide range of services from diagnostics to emegergency medical care and also offers holiday packages for dialysis patients including hotels and transfers through associated travel company DialyTour.

Cimasa is the dialysis arm of the Maria Rosaria nursing home group, which includes hospitals in Pompei and Sorrento and the DialyTour holiday dialysis company.

Standard haemodialysis treatments are available but also high-flux haemodialysis and on-line haemofiltration treatments, according to the specific needs of each patient.

Holistic approach
Their approach is holistic, aiming at the general wellbeing of the patient. This means not just relying upon effective equipment, but looking for the best conditions to handle the therapy: correct diet, psychological support and prompt special examinations as required.

POLAND

Euromedic International
Euromedic operates scanning, diagnostic, therapeutic and dialysis centres in 15 countries.

History

Euromedic entered the Polish healthcare market in the year 2000, in response to a change in the Polish healthcare system that introduced the possibility for Public Private Partnerships.

The National Health Fund (Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia) is the institution responsible for assuring healthcare services in Poland. The Fund finances healthcare services within the general health insurance system by concluding contracts with public as well as non-public healthcare providers. This makes it possible for Euromedic, with its proven model of a private healthcare provider which is fully integrated into the public healthcare system.
Starting activity in Poland was also in response to problems inherent in the Polish healthcare system. Lack of funds made investments in equipment and infrastructure impossible for many hospitals. The existing equipment aged with no prospect of replacement. At the same time, there was increasing demand for medical services.

In 2000, Euromedic started its activity in Poland in two main medical fields: Diagnostics and Dialysis.

Currently, Euromedic is the largest private operator and it has the largest network of dialysis and diagnostic centers in Poland. Within the following years, Euromedic has launched 18 International Medical Centers and 19 International Dialysis Centers in the Polish market.

DIALYSIS

Each year over 260,000 haemodialysis treatments are carried out in 19 Euromedic Dialysis Centers in Poland. Every tenth (in some regions every fourth) haemodialysis patienst in Poland is treated in our centers.
In response to the increasing demand for medical services, each year new dialysis centers are opened. Today, the company owns and operates 19 dialysis centres in Poland.

1. WROCLAW DIALYSIS CENTRE, located in Lower Silesia, was established on the 5 June 2001 as the first International Dialysis Centre in Poland. From its opening the Centre has been operating 21 haemodialysis stations.

2. PABIANICE DIALYSIS CENTRE is located in central Poland, near Lodz and Warsaw. It was opened on the 5 October 2001 as the second IDC in Poland. 16 haemodialysis machines are serving the patients of this Centre.

3. POZNAN DIALYSIS CENTRE is located in north-western Poland. It was established in the Military Hospital and officially opened on the 1 November 2001. At the time of its opening the Centre was equipped with 14 dialysis stations and in June 2008 their number was extended to 28.

4. OSTROW WIELKOPOLSKI DIALYSIS CENTRE is located in western Poland and was opened in December 2001. It is a branch of Poznan Dialysis Centre, operating initially 11 and currently 15 dialysis stations.

5. On the 1 June 2002 a branch of the Wroclaw Dialysis Centre was opened in Luban, western Poland, near the German and Czech Republic borders. LUBAN DIALYSIS CENTRE serves its patients with the help of 14 dialysis machines. Their number was increased to 22 in 2005.

6. ZABRZE DIALYSIS CENTRE was opened in January 2003 as a stand-alone building in Zabrze, Silesia, in southern Poland. It is one of the largest International Dialysis Centers in Poland with 30 dialysis machines. In 2008 it also became the centre with the largest group of peritoneal dialysis patients in the country.

7. Located in the country’s capital Warsaw, WARSZAWA DIALYSIS CENTRE is based in one of the beautiful 19th –century buildings of the Praski Hospital. It was opened on the 23 May 2003 and is currently equipped with 14 haemodialysis machines.

8. The second branch of Poznan Dialysis Centre is located in western Poland, in the town of Rawicz. RAWICZ DIALYSIS CENTRE was opened in June 2003, operating initially 12 and from 2004 – 14 dialysis stations.

9. The second branch of the Wroclaw Dialysis Centre was opened on the 16 June 2003. LUBIN DIALYSIS CENTRE is located in south-western Poland and was initially equipped with 11 haemodialysis machines, which by today have been increased to 17.

10. The first dialysis station operated by Euromedic in Silesia, Southern Poland, was opened in June 2003 in the town of Czestochowa. CZESTOCHOWA DIALYSIS CENTRE was established as a stand-alone building with 12 haemodialysis stations, which have since been increased to 18.

11. KOLOBRZEG DIALYSIS CENTRE is located on the Polish coast. This site is ideal for haemodialysis patients who can receive treatment during a beach holiday. The centre was opened on the 1 July 2003 with 14 dialysis stations and currently operates 15 machines.

12. In December 2003, the SECOND WROCLAW DIALYSIS CENTRE was opened with 22 haemodialysis machines which were later expanded to 27 dialysis machines.

13. ELK DIALYSIS CENTRE is located in the Masuria region – a tourist region in the north-east of Poland, known for its numerous lakes and untouched nature. The Centre has been operating since January 2004 with 14 haemodialysis stations, and further 2 were added in 2008 (there are currently 16 dialysis machines in the Centre).

14. Another branch of the Poznan Dialysis CENTRE was opened on the 17 May 2004 in western Poland. LESZNO DIALYSIS CENTRE operates as a stand-alone dialysis Centre with 31 haemodialysis stations. This is currently the largest Dialysis Centre operated by Euromedic in Poland.

15. SANDOMIERZ DIALYSIS CENTRE was the first International Dialysis Centre located in south-eastern Poland. It was opened in December 2005 with 14 dialysis stations and later expanded to 20 machines.

16. WIELUN DIALYSIS CENTRE was opened in March 2006 in central Poland, with 12 haemodialysis machines.

17. Another centre located in central Poland is MLAWA DIALYSIS CENTRE. The Centre was opened in July 2006 and is operating as a branch of the Warsaw dialysis centre, initially with 13 machines and later expanded to 16 haemodialysis stations on site.

18. INTERNATIONAL DIALYSIS CENTRE POZNAN II was established in March 2008. The centre is located in the Regional Medical Hospital of Poznan and was developed as a green field project in the hospital.
IDC Poznan II has the capacity to treat 120 patients on a regular basis. The centre has 14 haemodialysis machines and with its staff of 28 medical professionals performs nearly 19,000 dialysis treatments yearly.

19. On the 28 April 2008 Euromedic opened GNIEZNO DIALYSIS CENTRE. The Centre is located in the Regional Medical Hospital of Gniezno and was developed as a green field project (PPP Public-Private-Partnership), following a privatization tender. IDC Gniezno has the capacity to treat 72 patients on a regular basis with 12 haemodialysis machines

20. In October 2008, Euromedic opened its 20th Dialysis Center in the city of Plonsk. INTERNATIONAL DIALYSIS CENTER PLONSK is equipped with 12 haemodialysis machines and has the capacity to treat 72 patients on regular basis. The Center employs 18 medical professionals and performs over 11 000 dialysis treatments annually.

History

Euromedic began operations in Portugal with its acquisition of “Eurodial” in February of 2007. This acquisition included two dialysis centres (IDC Leiria and Obidos) both of which are located north of the capital city Lisbon. Together, these centres have over 350 patients and with its staff of more than 100 medical and technical professionals will perform in excess of 54,000 dialysis treatments per year.

In early October, 2007 Euromedic continued its expansion in Portugal with the acquisition of two additional companies “Clinica central do Bonfim” in Porto and “Clinica de Diagnostico pela Imagem” (CDI) in Evora. The “Bonfim” company consists of two dialysis centres (Pereira and Gondomar) with 165 patients and one diagnostic centre (Bonfim) located in Porto. CCB is a well established company with over 37 years of distinguished service to the community.

The company provided its services primarily in the Porto Metropolitan Area and in the districts of Porto and Vila real. “CDI” located in the Evora’s district of Alentejo region, Portugal – is a multi-modality diagnostic centre. CDI is a well recognized company with over 15 years of dedicated service in Evora. The company has significant market brand awareness and a leading position within its geographic area. The company provides a full range of diagnostic procedures including: CT, MRI, Digital Radiology, Mammography, EEG, Echo Doppler, Ultra Sound, ECG Holter, and other specialized medical services. This year with its team of 100 dedicated medical professionals (Headed by Dr. Fonseca’s Family) the company will complete over 100,000 diagnostic investigations.

“CREAR” medical services company; a modern multi-modality out patient and diagnostics centre located in the center of downtown Lisbon, Portugal joined Euromedic in late October, 2007. The company and its staff headed by Dr. Luis Fouto have a distinguished service reputation with over 10 years of service to the community. The company provides a full range of diagnostic procedures including: CT, MRI, Digital Radiology, Mammography, Densitometry, Cardiology, Appointments, Otorhinolaryngology, Orthopedics, Nutrition, Echocardiograms, Echography and Tone/Vocal Audiograms.

In March 2008, Euromedic acquired “CIENTIA Medical Group” which is headquartered in Lisbon, Portugal. The acquisition included 32 medical centres (18 Clinical Laboratories and 14 Diagnostic Centres) located principally in the Central Regions of Portugal. The diagnostic centres are multi-modality diagnostic facilities offering a wide range of imaging services. The “CRT Diagnostics Group” headed by Dr. Alexandre Correia Leal and his team of 75 medical professionals receives more than 800 patients per day and completes over 235,000 Diagnostic investigations per year. History

Following a successful bid in an international tender in Kazan, Tatarstan, at the end of 2004, International Dialysis Centres signed a long-term contract with the Local Government for the construction and operation of a large dialysis centre in the Republican Clinic in Kazan. In August 2005, the centre was opened by the President of Tatarstan and has the capacity to serve 200 dialysis patients.

In January 2006, the company purchased the shares of the largest dialysis centre in Russia, the Moscow Hospital no. 20 Dialysis Centre that treats 360 patients, as well as the Kolomna Dialysis Centre with its 120 patient’s capacity.

In the forth quarter of 2006, the company developed two additional centres, one in Mytichi with capacity for 140 patients and a second in Saint Petersburg with capacity for 300 patients.

The company opened its sixth centre in April 2008 in the city of Nabevezhyne Chelny in Tatarstan. The centre has capacity for 160 patients and performs over 25,000 treatments annually.

In May 2008, the company opened its seventh dialysis centre in the historic city of Astrakhan located on the shores of the Caspian Sea. The centre treats 60 patients on a regular basis and performs over 9,000 treatments annually.

In June 2008, Euromedic acquired “UNIFARM” dialysis centre located in the city of Krasnogorsk - Moscow Region, Russian Federation. IDC “UNIFARM” currently treats 107 patients on a regular basis and has the capacity to accommodate planned expansion. The centre has 18 haemodialysis machines and with a staff of 23 medical professionals performs over 9,000 treatments annually.

Euromedic is the largest private dialysis service company in Russia, with eight dialysis centres providing services to nearly 1,500 patients.

This enables patients to receive regular dialysis at any of the group's hospitals as they travel around Switzerland.

You should ask your health insurer how much of the cost of your dialysis treatment abroad is covered; in some cases, you will only be refunded the amount that you pay for dialysis at your normal place of residence. EU citizens can settle their bill directly using the EU insurance card in all Hirslanden clinics

It is essential that you bring the following documents with you for your guest dialysis:

* Current test results
